move from the table-top to a back-drop. These usually require
even more photo direction, because there are so many more aspects to
take into consideration. For example, the motorcycle was on loan
from a bike shop. It was clean but dusty, so we hand washed and
armor-alled the plastic and rubber...except for the treads of the
tires. Since the concept was that the bike was to be in motion,
we wanted the treads to look realistic. At the same time, when
the rider boarded the bike, he picked up dirt from the ground on the
bottom of his boots. We felt this distracting so we took a wet
towel and wiped off the bottoms. This may seem like minutia, but
this kind of attention to detail is all part of photo direction and
what makes for a successful photo shoot.
